About FileFade
FileFade is a simple, no-frills, secure file hosting platform. The site is currently in Beta, and changes should be expected.
Storage & Security
FileFade does not store your files in the typical sense. Once a file is selected and Upload is pressed, your file is encrypted in your browser, not server side. This means your file's unencrypted form is never transmitted to our server.
After that, the encrypted contents are uploaded and stored. In the generated link, your encryption key appears after the #k= part. Anyone with the generated link can download and decrypt the file. That randomly generated key is also never stored or sent to our server. This is happening in your browser as well.
Due to the secure nature of this process, FileFade cannot view, open, or recover the contents of your file, ever.
This adds yet another layer of security: if for some unforeseen reason FileFade was ever compromised, not even the attackers would have access to your file contents. The worst they would get is your IP address, which FileFade stores for the purpose of banning users who abuse the service we provide.
Guests vs Registered users
Guests have the ability to upload files just like registered users, but they are limited in the additional options that FileFade provides.
Registered users have the ability to limit the number of downloads, track analytics such as views and downloads, add or update passwords, delete files manually, and access more features to be added in future iterations of FileFade.
Guests are limited to 1 file upload per day, and that file upload is automatically deleted after 24 hours. Guests also cannot recover their download link if they lose it. So, what're you waiting for? Register today to get the most out of FileFade!
Reporting Uploads
Any user visiting FileFade has the ability to report a file from the download page. The only content that is not allowed on FileFade is illegal content, such as:
- Child pornography
- Copyrighted content such as TV episodes or movies
- Malware of any kind
- ...and for now that's it, but this list will change and be updated as time goes on.
Due to the nature of FileFade, admins will not be able to verify the reported content until we get in touch with the reporting party. As the reporting party, you are tasked with providing the evidence. If you would like to streamline the process, please do the following:
- Report the content from the download page.
- Provide a screen recording video of you opening the link and downloading the file.
- Open the Downloads section of your web browser and show the entire file name of the file you just downloaded from FileFade.
- Navigate to the local Downloads folder on your machine, and show the file there.
- Run or open the file only if it is safe to do so. If malware is suspected, do not run it; malware will be checked via file checksums from the most recent published lists.
- Show at least 5-10 seconds of the content you are reporting as violating the FileFade Terms of Service. We understand the content could be horrific or unsettling, so we do not require you to view the whole thing. But we do need confirmation that it is in violation, for us to act on it in fairness.
- Compose an email to reports@filefade.com with the video attached and your Report ID number in the title of the email. If the video is too large, you can upload it to FileFade and share it with us that way. If it is too large to upload to FileFade, support will generate a custom form for you to upload it to us without size restrictions.
If we never receive the email with video evidence, we cannot act on your report. Users found to be abusing the report system for things they might find offensive, or for any reason other than a violation of FileFade's Terms of Service, will be banned from using our service, and all files uploaded by them may be purged.
Thank you for using our service... we hope you stick around!
